How Do I Push Through Without Pushing Through?
Should I Push Through Pain On A Walk?
When I walk, and it is painful, how do I push through without pushing through?
You don’t push.
You start to notice when you get the urge to push and ask what emotion drives that.
It may be frustrating.
It may be because you believe you should.
It may be because you judge yourself for not being able to do what you expect of yourself.
It could also be because you crave that walk, a stress-reducing activity, and it maddens you that you can’t do it comfortably.
A Calm Motivation
Pushing yourself is not motivated by a positive emotion.
Walking gently isn’t pushing.
Enjoying what you see as you walk isn’t pushing.
Appreciating how you feel as you walk isn’t pushing.
You have to frame the walk and the intention behind it as enjoyable.
Make it so small that you can enjoy it in the tiniest way.
An Effective Starting Point
Sometimes imagining walking comfortably is even effective as a starting point.
However you choose to walk next time, it needs to be from the point of view of not pushing during the walk and just enjoying being on that walk.
Then you’ll have a better chance of interpreting sensations calmly, not reacting but responding to them.
Breathing through them, talking calmly to them and maybe yourself, and that perception feeds back to your brain as safe messages, eventually reducing pain.
It’s magical when it happens and even more magical once you realise you are the one holding the wand.
